We are very pleased to welcome you to pop-ups-planet. We have been working very hard to create a range of high quality ‘make yourself’ pop-up cards for children that we would like to share with you.
All of our the cards we create are beautifully illustrated and thoroughly tested. Children from the age of 5 and above can enjoy putting them together and you can have piece of mind in knowing that they will be learning whilst having fun in a safe environment.
Each pack tackles a different area of interest, natural beauty or of historical significance and all of our packs contain extra elements, so that the card can be given a unique style, your child can explore their creativity whilst learning.
The components for kit are all pre-cut with indented folds, once removed from the backing card they are ready to glue into position. Each card has a space to write a personal message.
You will be pleased to discover that all you need to complete the job is a glue stick - we even supply the envelope so that you are ready to send your card. You can see each of our pop-ups in more detail by clicking on their links on the left hand side.
We always endeavour to create pop-ups that capture the imagination of children and at the same time educate and in each pack you will find an information sheet that gives an overview of the subject matter, for example - the history of Bath Abbey', an overview of the Jurassic period or the history of pop-up cards.
All of the cards have been created and illustrated by Peter Sellwood who is a well-known educationalist in the West of England and has worked as a consultant on a number of national educational projects. He has had a diverse career in education that has taken him around the world working in Hong Kong with their education department as well as the United States where he writes for 'Destination imagination' - a world wide programme of creative problem-solving challenges for students.
For Peter pop-ups-planet represents the culmination of his knowledge of education coupled with his love of art and talent as an illustrator.

The age of the dinosaurs is a period that holds a fascination for most children. The thought of these huge creatures roaming the earth is awesome. The idea for this card was inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel The Lost World. The book tells the story of an expedition led by the larger than life Professor Challenger, who sets out to explore a plateau in South America that has been isolated from the days when dinosaurs roamed the earth. It is an exciting story written at a time when archaeologists were just beginning to find fossils of these incredible monsters, it gripped peoples imagination then and has continued to fascinate us all ever since.
How the World Developed
The Earth was formed 4,600 million years ago and for millions of years there was no life on our planet. The first living organisms appeared about 3,500 million years ago, they were simple creatures consisting of only one cell and they lived in the sea. The first fish developed around 500 million years ago and plants evolved over 100 million years later. The first land animals came into being about 395 million years ago and the first fossil evidence of the existence of dinosaurs is from 215 million years ago. Even so, dinosaurs inhabited the earth millions of years before our earliest ancestors.
The Truth about Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs were reptiles, which are cold-blooded and rely on the sun’s warmth to heat their bodies. When the air was cold, they were sluggish. When the sun came out they were alert and active. Crocodiles are the only surviving early reptiles; they have existed without much change since the first ones evolved some 130 million years ago.
Dinosaurs became extinct 63 million years before humans came into existence 3.2 million years ago, and even then we took another 3 million years to develop into the resourceful tool users we identify as our true forebears.
How the Dinosaur got its Name
The name ‘dinosaurus’ means ‘terrible lizards’. They evolved just after a period of intense forestation, which formed the rich coal seams we mine for fuel today. One of the oldest creatures still to be found on earth from this period is the dragonfly. Some of the earliest species were living in these forests 300 million years ago and were giants compared to the ones that inhabit our riverbanks today.
Tyrannosaurus Rex (Carnivorous dinosaurs) Tyrannosaurus Rex was very large and ate flesh, we know this by the shape of its teeth. They were sharp and had serrated edges, it used them to tear flesh from other animals. Tyrannosaurus Rex was the largest of the meat-eating dinosaurs. Seismosaurus (the name Siemosaurus means earth shaker), and Brachiosaurus were also large; they had really long necks and small heads. They were herbivores and were ideally shaped to reach foliage high up in trees - just like a modern day giraffe.
The Pack Contents
Inspired by these amazing creatures we designed this kit. The pack consists of three sheets of high quality card with die-cut sections and a base-card. It introduces children to levers and pop-up mechanisms. The kit includes full instructions to construct the card and a detailed history of dinosaurs. The size of the pop-up card when folded together is 110mm x 150mm which fits inside a forest green C6 envelope provided within the kit.
